About the Barrett MRAD Mk22
The Barrett MRAD Mk22 is a multi-caliber, bolt-action sniper rifle adopted by the United States Special Operations Command as the Advanced Sniper Rifle (ASR) in 2021. Chambered in .338 Norma Magnum as its primary caliber, the Mk22 can be rapidly converted between .300 Norma Magnum and 7.62x51mm NATO through user-level barrel and bolt changes, making it one of the most versatile precision rifle systems in military service. The rifle features an aluminum chassis with a folding stock, adjustable cheek piece and length of pull, and full-length Picatinny rail for optics mounting. The Mk22 replaces the M2010 Enhanced Sniper Rifle and the Mk 13 Mod 7 in US military service, providing snipers with greater range and terminal performance through its multi-caliber capability.
The Mk22 won the Advanced Sniper Rifle competition against submissions from multiple major firearms manufacturers, replacing three separate weapon systems across US special operations and conventional forces with a single modular platform capable of engaging targets from close range to beyond 1,500 meters.

The USSOCOM ASR contract was awarded to Barrett in 2019 for approximately $50 million. The Mk22 deployment kit includes three barrel assemblies, conversion bolts, and dedicated magazines for each caliber. The rifle's folding stock reduces transport length to approximately 886mm. Barrett developed the MRAD platform specifically for the Precision Sniper Rifle (PSR) competition in 2009, which eventually became the ASR program.
