About the Beretta M1923
The Beretta M1923 was an Italian semi-automatic service pistol designed by Tullio Marengoni, consolidating improvements from the wartime M1915/19. Chambered in 9mm Glisenti and using a blowback, single-action action, it was the first Beretta design to feature an exposed hammer, a hallmark that would carry through to later Beretta service pistols including the Model 92. It served the Royal Italian Army from 1923 to 1945.
The exposed-hammer layout introduced on the M1923 became a defining feature of Beretta service pistols for the rest of the 20th century, running through the wartime Model 1934 and ultimately the Model 92/96 series.
