About the Bernardelli Orione
The Bernardelli Orione is a side-by-side double-barrel break-action shotgun built by the Italian gunmaker Vincenzo Bernardelli of Gardone Val Trompia. Built on an Anson & Deeley boxlock action, it is a traditional field game gun offered in 12, 20 and 28 gauge (the 28-gauge chambering added in 1992), with 2.75-inch chambers, a coin-finished receiver with game-scene engraving, deluxe checkered walnut stock and forearm, and non-selective double triggers. Light and quick-handling at roughly 2.8 kilograms, it was aimed at upland and driven-bird shooting. It was discontinued in 1997.
Vincenzo Bernardelli built his reputation in Gardone Val Trompia on fine side-by-side game guns, and named several field models after stars and constellations — the Orione taking its name from Orion, the hunter of Greek myth.
