About the Browning BPR

The Browning BPR (Browning Pump Rifle) is a pump-action centerfire hunting rifle introduced in 1997 and produced by Fabrique Nationale in Herstal, Belgium. Mechanically related to the Browning BAR, it uses a seven-lug rotary bolt that locks directly into the barrel and shares scope mounts and magazines with the BAR Mark II. Chambered in popular hunting calibers including .30-06 Springfield, it offered fast follow-up shots from a slide action together with the strength of a rotating-bolt lockup. It was discontinued around 2001.

The BPR brought the pump-action format, long popular among Eastern US deer hunters who favored fast repeat fire in thick woods, to Browning's lineup by adapting the proven BAR action. Its relatively short production run has made surviving examples sought after by collectors.

Offered in long-action calibers (.270 Winchester, .30-06 Springfield, 7mm Remington Magnum, .300 Winchester Magnum) and short-action calibers (.243 Winchester, .308 Winchester). Standard calibers held four rounds in a detachable box magazine; magnum calibers held three and used a 24-inch barrel. Not to be confused with the earlier rimfire BPR-22 made by Miroku of Japan.
