About the Cooey Model 60

The Cooey Model 60 is a Canadian bolt-action repeating rifle chambered in .22 Short, .22 Long and .22 Long Rifle rimfire. Introduced in 1939 by the H. W. Cooey Machine & Arms Company of Cobourg, Ontario, it fed from a tubular magazine holding up to 10 rounds of .22 LR and used a bolt that fully cocked itself as the action was cycled. Inexpensive, accurate and durable, it became one of the most common small-game and plinking rifles in Canadian households and was sold widely through mail-order catalogues and hardware stores until production ended in 1979.

Designed by company founder Herbert Cooey shortly before his retirement, the Model 60 followed the success of the single-shot Cooey Canuck and became a fixture of rural Canadian life, passed down through generations as a first rifle for hunting rabbits and varmints.

Capacity varies with cartridge length: roughly 10+1 in .22 LR and up to 15+1 in .22 Short. After Winchester acquired Cooey in 1961 the rifle continued in production and was effectively succeeded by the Winchester-Cooey Model 600 in 1967.
