About the Hämmerli 232
The Hämmerli 232 is a Swiss semi-automatic target pistol chambered in .22 Short, built by Hämmerli AG of Lenzburg for the ISSF 25 metre rapid fire pistol event. It replaced the earlier Hämmerli 230 in 1984, adopting a more compact, conventionally-ported blowback action with gas-relief bores that vent to hold the muzzle down through the sport's four-, six- and eight-second strings. The pistol combines a lightweight aluminium-alloy receiver with a heavy steel barrel and breech assembly, an adjustable two-stage target trigger, an interchangeable front sight with a fully adjustable rear sight, anatomical walnut grips with adjustable balancing weights, and a five-round magazine dedicated to the short rimfire cartridge. It was produced in 232-1 and 232-2 forms until it was superseded by the Hämmerli SP20 RRS.
Chambered in the tiny .22 Short, the 232 was a purpose-built Olympic rapid-fire duelling pistol whose barrel was drilled with gas-relief ports to tame recoil across the sport's frantic multi-shot strings, letting shooters swing between five turning targets in as little as four seconds.
