About the Henry U.S. Survival AR-7
The Henry U.S. Survival AR-7 is a lightweight, takedown semi-automatic .22 LR rifle originally designed by Eugene Stoner in 1959 as the ArmaLite AR-7 - a development of the AR-5 bolt-action survival rifle adopted by the U.S. Air Force as a pilot and aircrew survival weapon. Henry Repeating Arms acquired the design and has produced it since 1997. The genius of the AR-7 is its takedown system: the barrel, receiver, and two 8-round magazines all stow inside the impact-resistant, water-resistant ABS synthetic buttstock, packing the entire rifle into a 16.5-inch package that floats when assembled.
Eugene Stoner - the same designer behind the AR-15 and M16 - created the AR-7 to give downed Air Force pilots a chance at small-game hunting in the wilderness. James Bond memorably used one with a folding stock and scope to assassinate a SPECTRE helicopter pilot in From Russia With Love.
