About the Husqvarna H-5000

The Husqvarna H-5000, also marketed as the Husky Model 5000, is a Swedish bolt-action hunting rifle built on the HVA (Husqvarna Vapenfabrik) action, an improved small-ring Mauser 98 pattern with a sliding thumb safety for easier scope mounting. Chambered in popular sporting cartridges such as .30-06 Springfield, .270 Winchester, 7mm Remington Magnum and .243 Winchester, it features a 22-inch barrel, checkered walnut stock with a Schnabel forend, hooded front and removable rear sights, and a receiver drilled and tapped for scope mounts. It was imported into the United States by Tradewinds, Inc. in the late 1960s and 1970s as an affordable quality sporting rifle.

Husqvarna's HVA action was so close to a refined Mauser 98 that these Swedish sporters earned a reputation as bargain-priced custom-quality rifles, prized by hunters who wanted Mauser strength and a slick sliding safety without the cost of a bespoke build.
