About the Marlin Model 883

The Marlin Model 883 is a bolt-action rimfire rifle chambered in .22 Winchester Magnum Rimfire. Introduced in 1988 as the replacement for the earlier Model 783, it feeds from a 12-round tubular magazine and uses a 22-inch Marlin MicroGroove barrel. It is fitted with a checkered American black walnut stock with a Monte Carlo comb, a grooved receiver for scope mounting, adjustable open sights, and sling swivel studs. Marlin marketed it as an affordable, accurate small-game and plinking rifle before discontinuing it in 2004.

The 883 belongs to Marlin's long-running bolt-action rimfire family that traces back to the Model 780/783 series, all built around the company's signature MicroGroove rifling, a shallow multi-groove system Marlin adopted in the 1950s to improve accuracy with lead and jacketed bullets.

Marlin Model 883 specifications

Replaced the Model 783. The 883SS variant featured a stainless-steel barrel and action, and some later runs shipped with a fired-cartridge case and synthetic or laminated stock options.
