About the Marlin Model 89

The Marlin Model 89 is a .22 Long Rifle semi-automatic rifle produced by Marlin Firearms from 1950 to 1961. It is the box-magazine-fed sibling of the tubular-fed Model 88, operating on a simple blowback action feeding from a small detachable box magazine. The rifle features Marlin's Micro-Groove barrel rifling and a one-piece walnut stock, and the most common variant, the Model 89C, was popular as an inexpensive plinking and small-game rifle. An M1-carbine-styled version was also produced for use as a training and drill rifle.

Marlin's clip-fed 89C was later produced in an M1-carbine styling that saw use as an inexpensive .22 rimfire trainer, giving new shooters the feel of a service rifle while firing cheap rimfire ammunition.

Marlin Model 89 specifications

The Model 89C is the standard clip-fed version; the 89DL is a deluxe variant. Magazines were offered in both 7-round and shorter capacities. Marlin's Micro-Groove rifling uses many shallow grooves rather than the traditional few deep lands.
