About the Marlin Model 99

The Marlin Model 99 is a semi-automatic, blowback-operated .22 Long Rifle rimfire rifle produced from 1959 to 1961. Fed by an under-barrel tubular magazine holding 18 rounds, it used Marlin's Micro-Groove barrel and a walnut stock. The Model 99 was the direct progenitor of the enormously successful Marlin Model 60, which was developed from it in 1960 and went on to become one of the best-selling .22 rifles of all time.

In 1960 Marlin engineers reworked the Model 99 to reduce machining and parts count, creating the Model 60 - a rifle that would sell in the tens of millions and become the most popular .22 sporting rifle in history.
