About the Marlin Model 995
The Marlin Model 995 is an American semi-automatic .22 Long Rifle carbine introduced in 1979 as the detachable-box-magazine sibling of Marlin's tubular-fed Model 60. It uses a simple blowback action and an 18-inch Micro-Groove rifled barrel, feeding from a 7-round detachable box magazine. Early guns wore a Monte Carlo American black walnut stock with a checkered pistol grip and forearm, a hooded ramp front sight, an adjustable open rear sight, and a receiver grooved for scope mounting. Light, accurate and affordable, it served as a plinking and small-game rifle before being discontinued in the late 1990s and later superseded by the synthetic-stocked Model 795.
The 995 gave Model 60 plinkers what the tubular magazine could not: a fast detachable box-magazine reload, a formula Marlin carried forward into the budget-friendly Model 795.
