About the Marlin X7
The Marlin X7 is a budget-priced, push-feed bolt-action hunting rifle introduced by Marlin Firearms in 2008. Built around a free-floated, button-rifled barrel with a recessed target crown, a fluted bolt with a removable bolt head, and a pillar-bedded synthetic stock, it earned a reputation for delivering sub-MOA accuracy at an entry-level price. Its standout feature is the user-adjustable Pro-Fire trigger, which can be tuned between roughly 3 and 6 pounds with a Glock-style trigger-safety actuator. The family spanned the long-action XL7 (.25-06, .270, .30-06), the short-action XS7 (.243, 7mm-08, .308), plus youth (X7Y) and heavy-barrel varmint (X7VH) models.
Reviewers were repeatedly surprised that a rifle retailing for barely over $300 could shoot half-inch groups out of the box, making the X7 a favorite recommendation for first-time hunters on a budget. Its adjustable Pro-Fire trigger was a rarity at the price point, borrowing a Glock-style blade safety so the rifle could ship with a genuinely light, creep-free pull.

Chamberings across the family included .22-250 Rem., .243 Win., .25-06 Rem., .270 Win., 7mm-08 Rem., .308 Win., and .30-06 Sprg. Specifications listed are for the standard 22-inch short-action .308 Win. configuration; the X7VH varmint model used a 26-inch heavy barrel and the X7Y youth model a shortened stock.
