About the Mossberg Model 142

The Mossberg Model 142 is an American .22 Long Rifle bolt-action carbine produced by O.F. Mossberg & Sons from 1949 to 1957. Styled after the U.S. M1 Carbine, it fed from a seven-round detachable box magazine and featured a distinctive synthetic fore-end that folded down to serve as a vertical foregrip or a prone-shooting monopod. Marketed as an affordable 'army-type' plinking and small-game carbine, it was offered in the aperture-sighted 142-A and the simpler open-sighted 142-K.

Mossberg pitched its 142 and 152 carbines to a generation of young shooters who had grown up watching GIs carry the M1 Carbine, wrapping an inexpensive .22 rimfire in web slings, folding foregrips and army styling to capture that appeal at a moderate price.
