About the Pietta 1858 Remington Buffalo

The Pietta 1858 Remington Buffalo is a black powder cap-and-ball revolver, an Italian-made reproduction of the Remington New Model Army 1858 fitted with an extended 12-inch octagonal barrel. Chambered for .44 caliber round or conical balls loaded with loose black powder and percussion caps, it feeds from a six-shot removable cylinder and fires single-action. The long barrel and adjustable target sights make the Buffalo variant favored for hunting and long-range target shooting, while its solid top strap gives it the rigidity the original 1858 design was famous for.

The original Remington Model 1858 was designed by Fordyce Beals and prized during the American Civil War for its solid top strap, which let a shooter swap a spent cylinder for a fresh loaded one in seconds. The Buffalo variant is a modern hunter's take on that Civil War workhorse, stretching the barrel to 12 inches for extra velocity and sight radius.
