About the Pietta 1862 Spiller & Burr

The Pietta 1862 Spiller & Burr is a reproduction of the Spiller & Burr revolver, a Confederate-made percussion revolver based on the Whitney Navy design. Produced in limited quantities during the Civil War, the original featured a brass frame and iron barrel. Pietta offers standard blued and nickel-plated variants in .36 caliber.

Edward N. Spiller and David J. Burr contracted with the Confederate government in 1861 to produce 15,000 revolvers based on the Whitney Navy pattern. Despite grand ambitions, only about 1,450 were completed before war's end. Production began in Atlanta but was relocated to Macon, Georgia when Sherman's forces threatened the city. The Spiller & Burr is valued by collectors as one of the more successful Confederate revolver programs.
