About the Pietta Great Western II Sheriff
The Pietta Great Western II Sheriff is a compact single-action revolver, a short-barrel reproduction of the Colt 1873 Single Action Army chambered in .45 Colt. Fitted with a 3.5-inch barrel and no ejector rod housing, the Sheriff evokes the concealable 'Sheriff's Model' and Storekeeper Colts of the Old West. A modern transfer-bar safety allows safe carry with all six chambers loaded, while the color case-hardened steel frame, blued barrel and cylinder, and walnut grip retain the period-correct look of the frontier original.
The 'Sheriff's Model' traces back to Colt's short-barreled Single Action Armies of the 1880s, often built without an ejector rod so the compact revolver could ride easily in a coat pocket or behind a store counter. Pietta's Great Western II Sheriff revives that pattern for modern Cowboy Action Shooting and Old West collectors, pairing 19th-century lines with a transfer-bar safety the original 1873 Colt never had.
