About the Remington Model 760 Gamemaster

The Remington Model 760 Gamemaster is an American pump-action hunting rifle produced from 1952 to 1981. Built on a receiver derived from the Model 11-48 shotgun, it uses a slide (pump) action to cycle a rotating multi-lug bolt with interrupted-thread lockup, feeding from a detachable box magazine. Chambered most popularly in .30-06 Springfield, it offered a fast follow-up rate uncommon among big-game rifles and became one of the best-selling American pump rifles, with more than one million produced before being succeeded by the Model 7600.

The Model 760's slide action gave deer and big-game hunters rapid follow-up shots at a time when bolt-action rifles dominated the field, and its receiver lineage traced back to Remington's Model 11-48 shotgun, letting hunters carry a rifle that handled much like the pump shotguns many already owned.

Remington Model 760 Gamemaster specifications

Originally to be designated the Model 762, the name was changed to Model 760 on May 22, 1950, to avoid confusion with the 7.62mm Russian cartridge. A short-barreled carbine version (760C, 18.5 in barrel) was also produced. Calibers offered over the production run included .30-06 Springfield, .300 Savage, .35 Remington, .300 H&H Magnum, .22 Hornet, and .30 Carbine.
