About the Remington Model 783

The Remington Model 783 is a budget-priced bolt-action hunting rifle introduced in 2013. Built on a mechanical design derived from the Marlin X7, it features a button-rifled, free-floated barrel, dual-pillar bedding platform, a floating bolt head with an AR-style plunger extractor, and the user-adjustable CrossFire trigger. It competes directly with the Savage Axis, Ruger American and Mossberg Patriot in the value rifle market. Production paused during Remington's 2020 restructuring and resumed under RemArms in 2023.

The 783 was conceived at a 2010 North Carolina deer camp by a trio of Remington executives who wanted an affordable hunting rifle to reclaim the budget market the company had ceded to Savage and Ruger.
