About the Remington Model 95 Double Derringer
The Remington Model 95 Double Derringer is a superimposed over-under, break-action pocket pistol chambered in .41 Short Rimfire. Introduced in 1866, its two stacked barrels and a hammer-driven rotating firing pin allow two rapid shots before reloading. Compact, easily concealed and inexpensive, it became one of the most iconic and widely copied pocket guns of the American Old West and remained in production for nearly 70 years.
A favorite hold-out gun of Old West gamblers and 'ladies of the evening', the Remington Double Derringer was small enough to hide in a boot, sleeve or palm, and its .41 rimfire slug was meant for across-the-card-table distances rather than marksmanship.

Safety

Early production lacked a cartridge extractor; after roughly the first 1,500 guns a manually operated sliding extractor was added on the left side of the barrels. Serial numbering practices changed mid-production, leaving several hundred guns marked 'Serial Number One'.
