About the Remington Model 1875 New Army
The Remington Model 1875 New Army is a six-shot, single-action centerfire revolver introduced by E. Remington and Sons to compete with the Colt Single Action Army. Built on a solid frame derived from the earlier Model 1858, it is most recognizable for the distinctive web of metal beneath its barrel and ejector housing. Chambered primarily in .45 Colt, and also offered in .44-40 Winchester and .44 Remington Centerfire, it saw limited U.S. and Mexican military purchases as well as civilian frontier sales.
The Model 1875's distinctive metal web beneath the barrel was a leftover of Remington's percussion-era frame design rather than a functional necessity, and it makes the revolver instantly distinguishable from Colt's Single Action Army at a glance.

Colt's two-year production head start with its Single Action Army limited the commercial success of the Model 1875. Fewer than 650 were bought by the U.S. government and roughly 1,000 were sold to Mexico around 1880. Modern reproductions are made by Uberti and Cimarron.
