About the Remington Model 572 Fieldmaster
The Remington Model 572 Fieldmaster is a slide-action (pump-action), manually operated repeating rimfire rifle introduced in 1955. It feeds .22 Short, .22 Long, and .22 Long Rifle cartridges from a tubular magazine beneath the barrel, and features a cross-bolt safety, an aluminum receiver grooved for scope mounts, and a solid-top receiver that ejects spent cases to the side. Operating much like Remington's pump-action shotguns, it served for decades as a popular small-game and plinking rifle as well as a trainer for shotgun handling.
The Model 572's pump action deliberately mimics the feel and handling of Remington's 870 and other pump shotguns, making it a favored low-cost trainer for young and new shooters before stepping up to a shotgun.
