About the Remington 597
The Remington 597 is an American semi-automatic rimfire rifle chambered primarily in .22 Long Rifle. Introduced in 1997 as a competitor to the Ruger 10/22, it uses a blowback action with a bolt riding on twin steel guide rails and feeds from a detachable box magazine. The rifle was also offered in .22 WMR and .17 HMR and remained in production until Remington discontinued it around 2019.
Marketed as Remington's answer to the ubiquitous Ruger 10/22, the 597 built a following among plinkers and small-game hunters for its twin-guide-rail bolt and low-cost accuracy before being dropped from the catalog.
