The Remington Model 700 VTR (Varmint-Tactical Rifle) is a bolt-action rifle built on the widely used Remington Model 700 action and introduced in 2008 for varmint hunting and tactical shooting. Its defining feature is a 22-inch hammer-forged carbon-steel barrel with a patented triangular exterior contour, machined from a heavy blank to shed weight while increasing surface area for better heat dissipation and rigidity. The barrel terminates in an integral muzzle brake machined into the profile, reducing felt recoil, and the rifle is fitted with a Hogue overmolded pillar-bedded synthetic stock and Remington's externally adjustable X-Mark Pro trigger. Chambered most commonly in .308 Winchester with a 1-in-12-inch twist, the VTR feeds from a four-round internal magazine and offers sub-MOA accuracy potential in a compact, maneuverable package.

The VTR's triangular barrel made it one of the most visually distinctive rifles in the Remington 700 lineup, trading the classic round profile for a machined three-sided contour with a built-in muzzle brake.

The triangular barrel profile is the VTR's signature and most controversial feature: it presents a flat top surface and beveled sides that increase radiating surface area for a given weight, though some reviewers questioned whether it delivered meaningfully better heat management than a conventional heavy barrel. The integral muzzle brake is machined directly into the end of the triangular contour and adds roughly two inches to the profile. The VTR was offered in .308 Winchester, .223 Remington, and .22-250 Remington, and later versions added 5-R rifling and an adjustable trigger.
