About the Remington XP-100

The Remington XP-100 is a single-shot, bolt-action pistol produced by Remington Arms from 1963 to 1998. Its name derives from 'eXperimental Pistol number 100.' Built on Remington's short-action 40X target rifle receiver fitted with a centrally located one-piece grip stock, it was one of the first handguns purpose-designed for long-range precision shooting and varmint hunting. The XP-100 debuted the .221 Remington Fireball cartridge and was prized for exceptional accuracy in handgun metallic silhouette competition.

Conceived by Remington engineer Wayne Leek, the XP-100 was developed alongside the brand-new .221 Remington Fireball cartridge engineered by Mike Walker, whose distinctive muzzle fireball gave the round its name. The pistol proved that a bolt-action handgun could deliver rifle-like accuracy at long range, helping launch the sport of handgun metallic silhouette shooting.
