About the Retolaza Titanic

The Retolaza Titanic is a Spanish blowback-operated 6.35mm (.25 ACP) semi-automatic vest-pocket pistol, produced by Retolaza Hermanos of Eibar from 1913. Like most Eibar-made automatics of the era it was an inexpensive copy of John Browning's FN Model 1906, with a striker-fired mechanism, a manual safety and fixed sights. Its slide was marked "6,35 1913 Model Automatic Pistol Titanic Eibar", the trade name chosen in the wake of the 1912 sinking of the ocean liner Titanic.

Retolaza Hermanos, among the pioneers of automatic-pistol making in Eibar, followed the Spanish industry's habit of naming cheap pocket pistols after topical events. The "Titanic" name was adopted barely a year after the famous liner sank in April 1912, joining the firm's other trade names such as Liberty, Velo-Dog and Puppy.

Retolaza Titanic specifications

The original 6.35mm model of 1913; Retolaza later enlarged the same design to 7.65mm as the Titanic M1914, which carried identical markings apart from the caliber. Grips bear the "Titanic" name above a circled "RH" monogram and "Cal. 6,35".
