About the Retolaza Titanic M1914
The Retolaza Titanic M1914 is a Spanish blowback-operated semi-automatic pistol chambered in .32 ACP, produced by Retolaza Hermanos of Eibar. It enlarged the firm's 6.35mm "Titanic" pocket pistol of 1913 to the larger 7.65mm cartridge, carrying over the same Browning 1906-pattern striker-fired layout and slide markings. Like most Eibar-made automatics of the period it was an inexpensive copy of John Browning's FN designs, sold under a topical trade name chosen in the wake of the 1912 Titanic disaster.
Retolaza Hermanos, among the pioneers of automatic-pistol making in Eibar, followed the Spanish industry's habit of naming cheap pocket pistols after topical events and aspirational themes. The "Titanic" name was adopted shortly after the famous liner sank in April 1912, joining the firm's other trade names such as Liberty, Velo-Dog and Puppy.
