About the Rossi Puma

The Rossi Puma is a lever-action rifle manufactured in Brazil by Amadeo Rossi S.A., built as a faithful clone of the Winchester Model 1892 designed by John Moses Browning. Chambered most commonly in .357 Magnum, .44 Magnum and .45 Colt, it feeds pistol-caliber cartridges from a tubular magazine and uses a locked-breech toggle-link action. Marketed in the United States under the Puma name (and later as the Rossi R92), it is popular for cowboy action shooting, ranch work, and short-range hunting.

The Puma name capitalized on Hollywood's love of the Winchester 1892, and Rossi's clones became a mainstay of Cowboy Action Shooting because their pistol-caliber chamberings let a shooter run a matched revolver and rifle on the same box of ammunition.
