About the Ruger GP100 .44 Special
The Ruger GP100 .44 Special is a double-action revolver introduced in 2016, chambering the .44 S&W Special cartridge in a five-shot cylinder. Built on Ruger's rugged mid-size GP100 stainless-steel frame with a 3-inch full-lug barrel, it pairs a green fiber-optic front sight with a fully adjustable white-outline rear sight and a cushioned Hogue Monogrip. The design delivers a heavy-caliber, low-recoil defensive and field revolver in a durable, all-stainless package.
The GP100 was introduced in 1985 as the successor to Ruger's Security-Six, engineered around a solid frame with no side plate for exceptional strength. The 2016 .44 Special model answered enthusiast demand for a modern, robust five-shot .44 Special defensive revolver.

The .44 Special chambering (model #1761) sits within the wider GP100 family, which is otherwise dominated by .357 Magnum and .38 Special models. The unfluted five-shot cylinder and full-lug barrel help tame recoil of the stout .44 Special loads.
This is a variant of the Ruger GP-100.
