About the Ruger GP100 Match Champion

The Ruger GP100 Match Champion is a competition-oriented double-action revolver chambered in .357 Magnum. Introduced in 2014, it builds on the rugged GP100 platform with a 4.2-inch slab-sided half-lug barrel featuring an 11-degree target crown, a contoured six-round cylinder, a fiber-optic front sight, an adjustable rear sight, and a custom Hogue stippled hardwood grip. Built entirely of satin stainless steel and tuned for IDPA-style competition, it balances match-grade accuracy with everyday durability and self-defense capability.

The GP100 line was introduced in 1985 as Ruger's heavy-duty .357 Magnum successor to the Security-Six, engineered to withstand a steady diet of full-power magnum loads. The Match Champion adapted that proven workhorse into a competition revolver, pairing its bank-vault frame with handling and accuracy features sought by action-shooting competitors.

The Match Champion was developed in collaboration with the Ruger Custom Shop concept for action shooting. Later revisions and a 10mm Auto chambering were added to the Match Champion line, but the .357 Magnum (model 1755) remains the flagship.
