About the Ruger Mark IV Competition
The Ruger Mark IV Competition is a semi-automatic pistol chambered in .22 Long Rifle, produced by Sturm, Ruger & Co. since 2017. This American-manufactured firearm reflects the engineering traditions and quality standards of its country of origin, designed to meet the demands of both civilian and professional users in a competitive global marketplace. Featuring a 10-round magazine capacity, this pistol offers adequate firepower for defensive carry. The 6.9-inch barrel maximizes accuracy potential and ballistic performance, making this an excellent choice for target shooting, competition, or field use. At 1298g (45.8 oz), this is a substantial firearm whose weight contributes to reduced felt recoil and enhanced stability during precision shooting. The stainless steel frame provides a solid, premium feel with the durability to withstand decades of regular use and thousands of rounds. This firearm represents its manufacturer's commitment to delivering a well-engineered, reliable product that serves the needs of discerning shooters seeking quality, accuracy, and dependable performance from a proven platform.
The Competition model represents the pinnacle of a lineage that began when Bill Ruger's 1949 Standard Auto became the most popular target pistol in American shooting sports. Ruger rimfire pistols have been the dominant platform in NRA Bullseye .22 stages for decades, and the Mark IV Competition continues that tradition with modern manufacturing precision. The slab-sided barrel profile has become an iconic visual identifier of the competition variant, distinguishing it at a glance from the round-profile barrels of the Hunter and standard models.

The Competition model features an internal cylindrical bolt construction that ensures permanent sight-to-barrel alignment, a critical factor in maintaining consistent accuracy. The slab-sided bull barrel profile provides maximum barrel mass without the aesthetic curves of a traditional bull barrel, creating a distinctive flat-sided appearance. The one-piece stainless steel grip frame is precision CNC-machined from a single billet rather than cast, providing tighter tolerances than the standard aluminum or polymer grip frames. The checkered laminate grips with integrated thumbrest are designed for a right-handed competition grip but can be replaced with ambidextrous panels. The trigger is single-action only with a factory pull weight of approximately 5 pounds (22.2 N). The 1:16-inch right-hand twist with 6 grooves stabilizes standard- and high-velocity .22 LR loads. Two 10-round magazines are included. MSRP is $989. Not available in California or Massachusetts.
