About the Ruger Redhawk Kodiak Backcountry
The Ruger Redhawk Kodiak Backcountry is a compact double-action/single-action revolver chambered in .44 Magnum, part of the Redhawk line designed as a rugged trail and backcountry defense sixgun. Marketed as a TALO-exclusive Kodiak Backpacker, it pairs the heavy triple-locking Redhawk frame with a stubby 2.75-inch barrel and hardwood grips, making it a stainless-steel packing revolver intended for defense against large game in bear country. The single-spring mechanism gives a smooth trigger, and the cylinder also accepts .44 Special loads.
The parent Redhawk was Ruger's first large-bore double-action revolver, designed by Roy Melcher and Harry Sefried and announced in 1979 with its signature triple-locking cylinder to handle the heaviest .44 Magnum loads.
