The Ruger SR1911 Competition is a full-size, single-action semi-automatic pistol chambered in .45 ACP, developed in collaboration with champion shooter Doug Koenig as part of Ruger's Custom Shop lineup. Introduced in 2019, the Competition model is built on the proven SR1911 platform but enhanced throughout for match-grade performance. Weighing 40 ounces (1,134 grams) empty with a 127mm (5-inch) stainless steel barrel and 220mm (8.67-inch) overall length, the pistol features a hand-fitted slide and frame for exceptionally tight tolerances. The competition barrel incorporates a fitted barrel bushing, fitted barrel lug, polished feed ramp, and target crown for superior accuracy. The trigger system uses a Koenig Shooting Sports low-mass Commander-style hammer and competition sear paired with a flat-faced aluminum match trigger with an overtravel adjustment screw, delivering a crisp trigger pull of approximately 4.1 pounds (18 N). Sights consist of a dovetailed fiber-optic front sight with replaceable inserts (.060 size) and a fully adjustable Bomar-style serrated rear target sight. The black-nitrided stainless steel frame features aggressive 25 lines-per-inch checkering on the front strap and mainspring housing, an undercut trigger guard for a high grip, ambidextrous extended combat safeties, a machined aluminum magwell, and textured G10 grip panels. The Competition ships with one 7-round flat-base magazine and one 8-round extended magazine in a waterproof fitted hard case with Ruger Custom Shop certificate of authenticity.

When Ruger launched its Custom Shop division, the SR1911 Competition was among the first offerings, developed with 80-time national and world champion Doug Koenig. The partnership brought professional competitive shooting insights to Ruger's investment-cast stainless steel manufacturing precision, producing a match-ready 1911 that could compete with pistols costing twice as much. The hand-fitted slide-to-frame and barrel-to-slide fitment, combined with the Koenig Shooting Sports trigger components, delivered a level of accuracy and reliability that earned the Competition model praise from both competitive shooters and firearms media.

The SR1911 Competition was developed in partnership with Doug Koenig, one of the most decorated competitive shooters in history with over 80 national and world championship titles. The .45 ACP version (model 6776) was preceded by the 9mm variant (model 6766), which uses a 10-round magazine and weighs slightly more at 41 ounces due to different magazine dimensions. The Competition barrel retains the SR1911's 1:16-inch (406mm) right-hand twist rate with 6 grooves, optimized for standard-weight projectiles in each caliber. The black nitride finish on both frame and slide provides superior corrosion and wear resistance compared to the standard SR1911's low-glare stainless finish. The integral plunger tube is machined directly into the frame rather than being pinned on, eliminating a common failure point in 1911 pistols. The Bomar-style adjustable rear sight is considered the gold standard for competition 1911 sights, offering precise windage and elevation adjustments with a clean, serrated sight picture.
