The Ruger SR1911 Target is a full-size, single-action semi-automatic pistol chambered in .45 ACP, introduced in 2017 as the precision-oriented variant of the SR1911 family. Built entirely from CNC-machined low-glare stainless steel, the Target model shares the same dimensions and weight as the standard SR1911 at 1,106 grams (39 ounces) empty with a 127mm (5-inch) barrel and 220mm (8.67-inch) overall length, but is differentiated by its adjustable Bomar-style target sights, ambidextrous thumb safety, and deluxe checkered G10 grip panels. The fully adjustable target rear sight features a serrated blade with precise windage and elevation adjustments, paired with a dovetailed front sight, providing a sight radius of approximately 175mm for enhanced accuracy at distance. The pistol retains the SR1911 family's cone-shaped barrel lockup with full-length recoil spring guide rod, Series 70-type firing system with titanium firing pin, and a skeletonized aluminum trigger with adjustable overtravel stop delivering a crisp single-action trigger pull of approximately 4.5 pounds (20 N). Additional features include a skeletonized hammer, beavertail grip safety, extended magazine release, oversized ejection port, and loaded chamber inspection port. The Target ships with one 7-round flat-base magazine and one 8-round extended magazine.

The SR1911 Target filled a gap in Ruger's 1911 lineup between the practical standard model and the premium Custom Shop Competition. For bullseye and precision pistol competitors who needed adjustable sights and a quality trigger but could not justify the Custom Shop premium, the Target provided a factory-ready solution. Its Bomar-style adjustable sights, the same type found on custom 1911s costing three to four times as much, gave the SR1911 Target credibility among serious target shooters.

Ruger SR1911 Target specifications

The SR1911 Target occupies the middle ground between the standard SR1911 and the Custom Shop Competition model. While it lacks the hand-fitted slide and frame, checkered front strap, and match trigger components of the Competition, the Target provides adjustable Bomar-style sights and an ambidextrous safety at a significantly lower price point (MSRP $1,329 versus $2,299 for the Competition). The adjustable target sights allow shooters to dial in precise point-of-aim/point-of-impact alignment for different loads, which is critical for bullseye competition where changing between 185-grain and 230-grain loads can shift point of impact by several inches at 50 yards. The 6-groove barrel with 1:16-inch (406mm) right-hand twist is consistent with the SR1911 family. The Target model is also available in 9mm (model 6759) with a 9+1 capacity. The .45 ACP Target is designated model 6736. Like all SR1911 models, the Target uses Ruger's proprietary investment-cast stainless steel produced at their Pine Tree Castings facility, enabling tighter tolerances than traditional forging at a competitive price point.
