The Ruger Super Redhawk in .480 Ruger is a large-frame double-action hunting revolver built on Sturm, Ruger & Co.'s heavy-duty Super Redhawk platform. Chambered for the .480 Ruger cartridge introduced in 2003, it uses an extended grip frame, a triple-locking cylinder, and integral scope-mount cuts to tame the recoil of the powerful big-bore cartridge. With its six-round cylinder and long 7.5-inch barrel, it is designed primarily for hunting medium and large game and for metallic silhouette shooting.

When Sturm, Ruger & Co. wanted its own proprietary big-bore hunting round, it partnered with Hornady to create the .480 Ruger, the company's first-ever cartridge, and launched it in the beefy Super Redhawk in 2003 as a more manageable alternative to the ferocious .454 Casull.

The .480 Ruger was the first cartridge developed by Sturm, Ruger & Co. and debuted in the Super Redhawk. It is essentially a shortened .475 Linebaugh, delivering big-bore stopping power with less recoil than the .454 Casull chambering of the same revolver.
