About the Sako 75

The Sako 75 is a premium Finnish bolt-action hunting rifle produced from 1996 to 2006 by Sako of Riihimaki, Finland. Its bolt carries three symmetrical locking lugs and a push-feed design with a detachable box magazine, a departure from the internal magazines of Sako's earlier models. The receiver was offered in five to six action lengths (designated I through V, plus SM) sized to cartridge families ranging from the small .222 Remington up to the massive .500 Jeffery, so that each chambering rode in an appropriately proportioned action. It pairs a cold-hammer-forged free-floating barrel with an adjustable single-stage trigger, a two-position safety that also locks the bolt, and an integral tapered dovetail scope rail. The Sako 75 was succeeded by the controlled-round-feed Sako 85 in 2006.

The Sako 75 was among the first hunting rifles built around multiple caliber-specific receiver lengths, an idea Sako pushed even further on its successor, the Sako 85, which used six dedicated action sizes.

Standard calibers feed a detachable magazine of roughly 4-5 rounds; magnum chamberings reduce capacity. The trigger is adjustable between approximately 1 and 2 kg (about 10-20 N). Barrel and overall lengths vary by model and chambering; figures given are for the standard-caliber Hunter. An optional key-lock provision could disable the bolt shroud as a security feature.
