About the Sako M74 Super

The Sako M74 Super is a premium Finnish bolt-action hunting rifle introduced around 1974 by Sako of Riihimaki, Finland, and produced until it was replaced by the Sako A-series (AI/AII/AV) toward the end of the decade. Like other Sako sporters of the era it was built on three receiver sizes scaled to short, medium and long cartridge families, so the same model was offered across a very wide chambering range from the diminutive .222 Remington up to the powerful .375 H&H Magnum. The Super grade pairs a cold-hammer-forged free-floating barrel and adjustable single-stage trigger with a select walnut stock, an internal box magazine with hinged floorplate, and Sako's characteristic integral tapered dovetail scope rail machined into the receiver.

Sako machined a tapered dovetail directly into the top of its receivers, letting hunters clamp a scope straight onto the action without separate bases - a signature feature carried across the M74 and later Sako sporters.

Weight and barrel length vary by action size and chambering; the figures given are representative of a long-action .30-06 example. Standard chamberings fed roughly five rounds from the internal magazine with magnum cartridges reducing capacity.
