About the Schultz & Larsen M84

The Schultz & Larsen M84 is a Danish bolt-action hunting rifle built at the company's Otterup factory as part of its classic hand-made sporting line, following the earlier M60, M65 and M68 and preceding the final M100. Like its predecessors it is built on Schultz & Larsen's distinctive multi-lug rear-locking bolt action, in which the locking lugs sit at the rear of the bolt, a layout carried over from the firm's match-rifle heritage and prized for accuracy, and it is paired with the company's renowned cut-rifled barrel. Offered in full-power hunting chamberings such as the .30-06 Springfield, 6.5x55mm Swedish and .308 Winchester, it was highly praised by hunters and, being largely hand-built, was made in small batches that sold out soon after production.

Schultz & Larsen was founded in 1919 by the marksman Hans Schultz and his son-in-law Niels Larsen, and the firm's match-rifle pedigree fed into its cut-rifled barrels, which were so accurate that British concessionaire George Swenson used them to launch the SWING target rifle around 1970.

The M84 sits between the M68 and the final M100 in Schultz & Larsen's classic model progression (M5x, M60, M65, M68, M84, M100). Detailed factory specifications are sparsely documented; weight, barrel length, magazine capacity and the full chambering list are unconfirmed here and left null. Chamberings varied to order on the same rear-locking action; the .30-06 Springfield is recorded as the primary chambering in line with the company's earlier sporting rifles.
