About the Stevens Marksman No. 12
The Stevens Marksman No. 12 is an American single-shot, tip-up takedown rifle chambered in .22 rimfire. Operated by an under-lever that tilts the barrel up for loading, it was one of the inexpensive 'boys rifles' that J. Stevens Arms & Tool Company built to introduce young shooters to marksmanship. The barrel separates from the receiver by loosening a knurled takedown thumbscrew, making the rifle compact to carry and allowing interchangeable barrels in other rimfire chamberings.
Stevens marketed its tip-up 'Marksman' rifles to families as an affordable first gun, helping popularize backyard and small-bore plinking in early 20th-century America.
