About the Steyr Zephyr II
The Steyr Zephyr II is a premium bolt-action .22 Long Rifle sporting rifle introduced by Steyr Arms of Austria in 2018 as a modern revival of the original 1955-1971 Steyr Zephyr rimfire. It pairs a 19.7-inch cold-hammer-forged barrel with a classic European walnut stock featuring a Bavarian cheekpiece, schnabel fore-end and fine fish-scale checkering. The rifle uses a smooth bolt action with a distinctive butterknife-style bolt handle, a short 1.65-inch throw and twin extractors for positive case extraction. A factory-tuned two-stage trigger breaking around two pounds, a tang-mounted two-position safety and an 11mm dovetail for scope mounting make it a refined choice for target shooting and small-game hunting. Offered in .22 LR, .22 WMR and .17 HMR, and in a threaded-barrel (TB) variant for suppressor use.
When Steyr revived the Zephyr name in 2018, it deliberately echoed the prestige of its 1950s Mannlicher heritage: the butterknife bolt handle, walnut Bavarian cheekpiece and continental fish-scale checkering are direct nods to the coveted original, repackaged with cold-hammer-forged accuracy for a new generation of rimfire enthusiasts.
