About the Taurus 327

The Taurus 327 is a compact, small-frame, double-action/single-action revolver chambered in .327 Federal Magnum. Introduced in 2022, it is one of the few modern revolvers chambered for this high-pressure cartridge, which offers near-.357 Magnum performance in a smaller package with less felt recoil and one extra round of capacity compared to typical .38 Special snub-nose revolvers. Built on an all-steel frame with a 2-inch barrel, the 327 holds six rounds in its cylinder and is also compatible with .32 H&R Magnum and .32 S&W Long cartridges. The revolver features a transfer bar safety system, exposed hammer for single-action cocking, a removable serrated blade front sight, and a fixed no-snag rear channel sight designed for snag-free concealed carry. The recoil-absorbing rubber grip helps manage the substantial energy of the .327 Federal Magnum cartridge from this lightweight platform. At 22 ounces unloaded, the Taurus 327 is purpose-built as a self-defense and concealed carry revolver that delivers a meaningful ballistic advantage over .38 Special without the size or weight penalty of a .357 Magnum revolver.

Taurus's semi-automatic pistol development accelerated dramatically after acquiring Beretta's Brazilian manufacturing facility in 1980, and the company has since developed an increasingly independent lineup of original designs alongside their proven Beretta-derived models.

The .327 Federal Magnum cartridge operates at 45,000 PSI, making it one of the highest-pressure handgun cartridges in production. Despite this, the Taurus 327's all-steel construction handles it without issue. The 2-inch barrel results in significant velocity loss compared to factory-listed specifications (typically tested in 4-inch barrels), with real-world muzzle velocities from the 2-inch barrel running approximately 1,100-1,260 fps with 100-grain bullets versus the listed 1,500 fps. The ability to also chamber .32 H&R Magnum and .32 S&W Long makes it a versatile revolver for practice shooting with reduced-power loads. The double-action trigger pull on the 2-inch model is notably heavy at approximately 16 lbs (71 N), which is typical for small-frame defensive revolvers but can hinder accuracy for less experienced shooters. The Defender T.O.R.O. variant adds a 3-inch barrel, optics-ready top rail, and a slightly lower trigger pull weight. MSRP starts at approximately $500.
