About the Tikka M690
The Tikka M690 is a Finnish long-action bolt-action hunting and sporting rifle produced by Tikka (then owned by Sako) from 1989 to 1997 as part of the M90 'New Generation' series. The long-action M690 handled full-length and magnum cartridges such as the .30-06 Springfield, .270 Winchester and .300 Winchester Magnum, while its short-action sibling, the M590, covered cartridges like the .223 Remington and .308 Winchester. It uses a 90-degree rotating two-lug bolt derived from the earlier M55/M65 designs, a detachable box magazine, and an adjustable single-stage trigger. The receiver is drilled and tapped for scope mounts, and the rifle was typically fitted with a walnut sporter stock. The M690 succeeded the Tikka M65 long-action rifles and was itself replaced by the M695 of the later M95 series.
The M690 marked the point where the Tikka name passed from the historic Tikkakoski works into Sako's stewardship, bridging the classic M55/M65 hunting rifles and the modular T3 family that would later make Tikka a mainstay of budget precision shooting.

The M90 series (M590 short action, M690 long action) formed the intermediate step between the Tikkakoski-era M55/M65 rifles and the Sako-built M595/M695 series that preceded the modern Tikka T3. Exact per-caliber barrel lengths, weights and magazine capacities varied by configuration; the figures here reflect the standard sporter long-action pattern and are extrapolated from the closely related M65 long action.
