About the Tikka M90

The Tikka M90 is the Finnish 'New Generation' family of bolt-action hunting and sporting rifles produced by Sako-owned Tikka from 1989 to 1997. The series combined short-action models (such as the M551 and M558 in .223 Remington, .243 Winchester and .308 Winchester) and long-action models (such as the M658 and M690 in .270 Winchester, .30-06 Springfield and .300 Winchester Magnum) around a common 90-degree rotating two-lug bolt derived from the earlier Tikka M55 and M65 rifles. Each rifle uses a detachable box magazine, a free-floating barrel, an adjustable single-stage trigger with an optional single-set function, and a receiver drilled and tapped for scope mounts, and was typically fitted with a walnut sporter stock. The M90 series bridged the historic Tikkakoski-era rifles and the later Sako-built M95 (M595/M695) rifles that preceded the modern Tikka T3.

The M90 series marked the moment the Tikka name passed from the historic Tikkakoski works into Sako's stewardship, forming the bridge between the classic M55/M65 hunting rifles and the modular T3 family that would later make Tikka a mainstay of affordable precision shooting.

'Tikka M90' denotes the whole New Generation series rather than a single SKU; individual models carried three-digit designations (M551/M558 short action, M658/M690 long action).
