About the Tikka M558

The Tikka M558 is a Finnish short/medium-action bolt-action sporting rifle introduced in 1990 as the successor to the earlier Tikka M55. It was among the first rifles produced after Tikka relocated its manufacturing to the Sako plant in Riihimaki, Finland. Chambered for standard cartridges such as .243 Winchester, .308 Winchester, .22-250 Remington and .222 Remington, the rifle uses a free-floating barrel and a detachable single-column clip magazine. Rather than drilled-and-tapped scope holes, the receiver carries an integral 16.5 mm dovetail with a recoil notch for optics mounting. The M558 earned a reputation among hunters and target shooters for its accuracy, reliability and ease of maintenance.

When Tikka moved production into the Sako factory at Riihimaki around 1990, the M558 was one of the very first rifles off the new line, carrying the accuracy reputation of the old M55 into the Sako-built era that would eventually lead to the world-famous Tikka T3.
