About the Winchester Model 270

The Winchester Model 270 is a slide-action (pump) .22 rimfire rifle produced by Winchester from 1963 to 1973. Chambered to interchangeably fire .22 Short, .22 Long, and .22 Long Rifle cartridges from its tubular magazine, it featured a lightweight aluminum-alloy receiver grooved for tip-off scope mounts, a cross-bolt safety, and a hardwood stock. Aimed at the affordable plinking and small-game market, it was a popular budget pump .22 alongside its autoloading sibling, the Model 290.

The Model 270 and its self-loading counterpart the Model 290 were Winchester's economy .22 rifles of the 1960s, built to compete on price with rimfire plinkers from Remington and Marlin.
