Arisaka Type 99 Short Rifle

Mint, matching with intact MUM & numbered dust cover & AA sights! Recently imported from the US & offered for sale is this fully matching numbered Imperial Japanese Arisaka Type 99 chambered in 7.7mm which retains the coveted dust cover & flip out AA sights with provision for the monopod. We all know it is practically unheard of for a WW2 Japanese Type 99 to be available with matching numbers, but we have this available now at the shop. Available records indicate this was a Series 5 rifle made by the Imperial Military Nagoya Arsenal. The Nagoya Arsenal was a Japanese state-owned combine of five military industrial facilities located in the various wards of the city of Nagoya. This matching numbered rifle has all the hallmarks of being a war trophy, having been taken home after the war by a US GI as the Emperors Chrysanthemum (MUM) remains intact. The intact MUM usually indicates a battlefield captured rifle, as all surrendered Japanese rifles had the MUM either ground, scrubbed or somehow defaced at the time of the Japanese surrender. Interestingly, this rifle has the proof stamp of OGEK which is from the Ogden Armoury, indicating Elmer Keith who was a well known Inspector at Ogden. Why this would happen we have no idea & it is worth researching but it definitely supports this being brought home as a war trophy. Overall this rifle is in excellent condition as can be seen in the photos with all visible numbers matching although on the dust cover only 867 is clear enough to make out. It retains the flip out AA sights & has the provision for the monopod. You could source a monopod easily enough which along with the cleaning rod would complete this nice rifle. Condition can be seen in the photos & the bore is excellent, shiny with clear visible rifling so definitely a shooter & we have ammunition at the shop if collected. For those serious collectors who have been holding out hope for a matching numbered Arisaka in great condition, here it is so don't delay if you think this is for you.
