According to available records, with the serial number 199785, this Model 1907 Dreyse 7.65mm pistol was manufactured by Rheinische Metallwaren-und Maschinenfabrik in Sömmerda, Germany towards the end of WW1, likely 1915-1917. While early models (pre-1914) often went to commercial markets or police, numbers approaching 200,000 are firmly within the wartime production period when these pistols were heavily used by German military & specialized units. Primarily used by Officers of the Austro-Hungarian Empire & use by Officers of Imperial Germany during World War I is noted. Correctly, this sports Crown N commercial proofs on the left side of the frame & slide near the trigger. Examples saw use by Wehrmacht troops (especially officers) during WW2, mainly 2nd & 3rd tiers troops. During WW2 this pistol found its way to the Norwegian resistance. Quite a few of these pistols have, alongside home-made Sten-guns and illegal radios, been found hidden within the house-walls of Norwegian resistance members & sympathisers since WW2. Due to its unusual, almost Art Deco appearance, the M1907 appears as the police service weapon of Inspector Gereon Rath, the male protagonist of the 2017 German limited run series, Babylon Berlin, which is set in the German Weimar Republic. We are offering this pistol as a collectable piece of military history & acknowledge the grievous atrocities committed by the Nazi regime & some of its military, particularly toward the peoples of occupied territory & the Jewish population in Europe. In no way do we condone or glorify the Nazi regime which must be remembered for the vile stain on human history that it was.
