Description

Immaculate & Fully Matching including Shoulder Stock! The iconic Mauser C96 (Construktion 96) is a semi-automatic pistol that was originally produced by German arms manufacturer Mauser from 1896 to 1937 & were used by numerous armed forces from various countries but of course, mainly the German armed forces, both Imperial & Nazi including a special Luftwaffe order placed in 1940 which used remaining parts. Unlicensed copies of the gun also manufactured in Spain & China in the first half of the 20th century. Famous for Han Solo's blaster which was modelled on the C96, the distinctive characteristics of the C96 are the integral box magazine in front of the trigger, the long barrel, the wooden shoulder stock which gives it the stability of a short-barreled rifle & doubles as a holster or carrying case & a grip shaped like the handle of a broom, hence the famous nickname 'Broomhandle Mauser'. They have their place in political & social history as three Mauser C96s were used in the killing of Spanish prime minister Eduardo Dato in 1921 & a Mauser C96 was used in the assassination of the King of Yugoslavia Alexander I of Yugoslavia in 1934. With its long barrel & high-velocity cartridge, the Mauser C96 had superior range & better penetration than most other pistols of its era. Little known is the fact the 7.63×25mm Mauser cartridge was the highest-velocity commercially manufactured pistol cartridge until the advent of the .357 Magnum cartridge in 1935. Lieutenant Winston Churchill purchased his Mauser 1896 in London before travelling to Africa for the 2nd Boer War as this pistol was popular with British officers serving overseas with several known to have carried this type of German semi-automatic pistol in the famous charge at Omdurman on 2 September 1898 during the 2nd Sudan War (1896-1898). The pistol was popular for its firepower because it could fire ten shots before being reloaded which was four more than the British Army's standard revolver. With its box magazine & wooden holster doubling as a shoulder stock, the weapon also had a unique style. This fine example has all matching numbers including the original shoulder stock/holster & has all the correct early model features including cone-shaped hammer, deeply milled panels in frame, early firing pin retainer, 1st type safety catch, separate trigger unit, long extractor, and 'Waffenfabrik Mauser' nock's form marking. Typical rust-blued finish on frame & barrel/barrel extension, extractor, rear sight & trigger are fire blued & the correct German proof marks & nicely, it retains the original lanyard ring. Do your own research & you will know if this is for you. Please view the photos carefully & make your decision based on what you see as they form the main description & override all written information. Ask for more if desired. We are offering this rifle as a collectable piece of military history & acknowledge the grievous atrocities committed by the Nazi regime & some of its military, particularly toward the peoples of occupied territory & the Jewish population in Europe. In no way do we condone or glorify the Nazi regime which must be remembered for the vile stain on human history that it was. We think we have described it accurately & correctly but do not claim to be infallible so if we have got anything wrong, it is unintentional & are happy for feedback from people who know more than we do. Whilst we check these out for serviceability, the warranty has expired & this is sold on an 'as is' basis. As with all used guns, we recommend you have this checked by a suitably qualified person prior to shooting. We have a pretty unique refund policy on our collectable guns whereby we will refund your money if it is not as described when you receive it. Just let us know before you decide to send it back. This is being sold on consignment on behalf of the Australian collector who has had this in his collection for decades. Call for shipping cost to your dealer.
