Description
This is an excellent example of a WW1 US Model of 1917 (M-17) manufactured in Remington's Eddystone factory with original 1907 Pattern leather sling. These were the main battle rifle of US forces in Europe in WW1, despite the Springfield M1903 being the most famously known & being the official rifle of the US military. This was because the US were unprepared for the war & had to scramble for rifles to meet the demand so they had Remington & Winchester (who had been responsible for manufacturing the P14 for England in .303) convert manufacture of these rifles to be chambered in 30-06 for the US military. The barrel is marked Nov 1918 & it all original with all visible markings being the correct E for Eddystone. The wood is a nice pattern & the metal is very good. The bore is excellent & it shoots well. This is in collector grade condition for a gun around 100 years old plus would make an excellent service rifle shooter. Please view the photos carefully as these form the main description & override all others. Sold on consignment on behalf of a collector.
