Description
Matching pre-WW2 Enfield No. 2 Mk 1 RAF air crew marked revolver in original condition! This desirable revolver was imported from Germany where it remained after being confiscated from a downed RAF aircrewman during WW2, presumably after he was shot down over the Fatherland & captured. This rare & highly collectable No. 2 Mk 1 service revolver was manufactured in 1933 by RSAF Enfield then sent to the RAF & issued to aircrew before ending up parachuting into Germany, making it a gun with a very interesting provenance. Wartime production finish dropped dramatically for obvious reasons so this is the pre-war quality finish, making it very desirable for collectors plus as can be seen, never had the hammer 'bobbed' as most did later in the war, making them double action only. As can be seen in the photos, this is in excellent original condition, retaining the wood grips (not Bakelite, as later war revolvers had), spurred hammer & quality blueing. Other than the high quality of the finish, what makes this a desirable & unique gun is that it was clearly meant for RAF air crew, as identified by the stamp on the frame. All numbered pieces match, original checkered wooden grips are in excellent condition & complete with intact lanyard ring. The lock up is tight & action firm. This comes from a private collection & now being offered for sale for the first time in Australia. We are all told as collectors to buy the gun & not the story but it doesn't get much more interesting than this! RAF aircrew issued & ended up in Germany, so shot down & captured? These don't come onto the collector market very often, especially here in Australia & this unique revolver will make a great addition to your WW2 handgun collection. Please view all of the photos carefully as they form the main description & override all others. Sold on consignment on behalf of a collector.
